CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATOR – WICHITA, KS or OVERLAND PARK, KS
Jaco General Contractor is looking for an experienced estimator to join our team. Licensed or authorized to do business in forty states, we work all over the country and on many types of projects including retail, restaurant, hotel/hospitality, multi-family, medical, and recreation/sports facilities. Job Duties:
- Thoroughly review and evaluate key construction documents, such as plans, blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications.
- Identify potential suppliers/subcontractors and solicit multiple bids to cover each required work scope.
- Prepare material take-offs to determine or validate cost estimates.
- Vet potential vendors, suppliers, and contractors to ensure suitability for the project and negotiate the best possible pricing.
- Review bids for completeness and assemble a complete estimate of the probable cost of materials, labor, equipment, and other costs necessary to complete the project to meet the client’s needs.
- Communicate with clients, architects and engineers to fully understand the desired end product.
- Use past experience and professional judgment in conjunction with plans and specifications to determine the most suitable vendors, contractors, methods, and materials for every project.
- In all meetings, conversations, and correspondence, act with integrity and positively represent Jaco to prospective clients and vendors.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Construction Management/Science or similar degree with three years of relevant construction experience.
- Experience with projects in the $4M – $20M+ range preferred.
- Solid practical understanding of construction methods, materials, building processes, and regulations.
- Ability to read, interpret, and analyze construction drawings and specifications.
- Ability to create estimates from a conceptual plan.
- Proficiency in construction estimating, bidding, and take-off platforms such as Building Connected, On-Screen Takeoff or PlanSwift.
- Proficiency with ProCore project management platform preferred, but not required.
- Strong math and analytical skills.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-moving environment.
